Credentials
Cardiovascular Credentialing International offers the vascular credential called Registered Vascular Specialist or RVS. A sonographer holding a RVS credential has demonstrated the fundamental knowledge, skills and dedication to their professional development. Further, CCI also offers a credential just in the specialized area of phlebology or the study of veins. This Registered Phlebology Sonographer or RPhS credential indicates one has undergone the traditional RVS training and credentialing plus additional training of months to years of practice in conjunction with continuing medical education. Professionals holding a credential of RPhS is a sign that they are dedicated to the diagnosis of veins.
The American Vein & Lymphatic Society is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of venous and lymphatic disease making AVLS the leading advocate for the field of vein and lymphatic care. Per the AVLS scope of practice, the RPhS credential allows the specialist to not only interpret their own ultrasound studies but enables them to also perform the vein ablations under physician supervision.
The Society for Vascular Ultrasound which is the professional society for the RVS credential is dedicated to the advancement of ultrasound technology used in the diagnosis of vascular disease.
The SDMS is a professional membership organization to promote, advance, and educate the medical community in the science of diagnostic medical sonography.
